A recent announcement claiming that the European law enforcement agency Europol was offering a $50,000 reward to track down the administrators of the Russian ransomware group Qilin turned out to be a Telegram scam. This false reward message deceived several cybersecurity news outlets into believing that Europol would pay rewards to anyone providing information on the Qilin administrators Haise and XORacle. It was alleged that these individuals were responsible for 'coordinating affiliate organizations and overseeing ransom activities,' and Europol was seeking intelligence that could 'directly lead to the identification or location of these administrators.' However, Europol confirmed to Security Week that this so-called reward was actually a 'scam,' and the agency had never issued such a reward.
