According to reports from The Block, Interpol announced on Friday that its coordinated Operation Sarengeti 2.0 has successfully arrested 1,209 suspected cybercriminals who collectively targeted nearly 88,000 victims. The operation involved investigators from 18 African countries and the UK.

Since starting in June this year, the operation has recovered $97.4 million and dismantled 11,432 malicious infrastructures. In Zambia, authorities disrupted a large-scale online investment scam that lured around 65,000 victims to invest in cryptocurrency through high-return promises, with estimated fraud amounting to $300 million.

In Angola, investigators dismantled 25 crypto mining centers, arrested 60 Chinese citizens illegally validating blockchain transactions, and seized mining and IT equipment worth over $37 million.
