According to Bloomberg, the Hong Kong SAR Government has commissioned banks to prepare for a potential issuance of digital bonds. If this issuance proceeds, it will be the government's third issuance of digital bonds. The SAR Government previously successfully sold tokenized green bonds worth 800 million Hong Kong dollars under the government's green bond program in 2023, making it one of the first government-issued tokenized green bonds globally. This was followed by the issuance of the world's first multi-currency digital green bonds in 2024, involving approximately 6 billion Hong Kong dollars.
