US Treasury Secretary Defends Milan: Personnel Arrangement Fully Compliant, Signal Clear

In response to rumors, US Treasury Secretary Benson defended a special personnel arrangement for Milan, allowing him to temporarily leave his White House position while serving as a Federal Reserve Board member. Benson stated on Tuesday, 'I see absolutely nothing improper about this.' The US Senate approved Milan's nomination as a Federal Reserve Board member in a largely party-line vote on Monday evening local time, and he will participate in this week's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.

Benson added that if Milan did not choose to temporarily leave his White House position but instead resigned directly, the position would remain vacant until his departure from the Federal Reserve in January or February next year, requiring Senate confirmation to return to the White House. I believe this sends a clear signal: the plan is for him to return to the White House Economic Advisory Committee and serve as chairman in the future.

President Trump may nominate Milan to continue as a Federal Reserve Board member for a full 14-year term in February, or he may choose someone else. If Trump does not select another person for the new term, Milan could also serve indefinitely.
