According to sources, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that the country is close to finalizing a trade agreement with the United States, following President Trump's imposition of high tariffs on Malaysian exports to the US. Anwar mentioned on Wednesday evening in the administrative capital Putrajaya that he believes 99.9% of the issues have been resolved, with the remaining to be settled at a cabinet meeting on Friday. Both Malaysia and the US plan to conclude negotiations during Trump's visit to Kuala Lumpur later this month for the ASEAN summit. Currently, Malaysia faces a 19% tariff on exports to the US, and Trump is considering imposing tariffs on semiconductors, a move that has raised significant concerns among Southeast Asian countries.
