According to DLNews, Avalanche is launching the Granite upgrade this week to enhance transaction speed and security. Ava Labs executive Olivia Vande Woude stated that the upgrade will reduce settlement time to under 2 seconds, making it more suitable for applications requiring real-time on-chain confirmation. Granite includes three core updates: dynamically adjusting transaction processing speed to cope with fluctuating on-chain traffic, reducing cross-chain transaction costs, and introducing biometric signature functionality (supporting fingerprint, facial recognition, etc.). However, the six-year-old blockchain is facing economic challenges. DefiLlama data shows that Avalanche's DeFi deposits have decreased by $1.4 billion in the past six weeks, with the on-chain economy currently plummeting by nearly 90% from its 2022 peak of $17.8 billion. Whether the Granite upgrade can reverse this trend will be a crucial test for Avalanche.
