Ava Labs executive Olivia Vande Woude stated that the upgrade will reduce settlement time to under 2 seconds, making it more suitable for applications requiring real-time on-chain confirmation. Granite includes three core updates: dynamically adjusting transaction processing speed to cope with fluctuating on-chain traffic, reducing cross-chain transaction costs, and introducing biometric signature functionality (supporting fingerprint, facial recognition, etc.). However, the six-year-old blockchain is facing economic challenges. DefiLlama data shows that Avalanche's DeFi deposits have decreased by $1.4 billion in the past six weeks, with the on-chain economy currently plummeting by nearly 90% from its 2022 peak of $17.8 billion. Whether the Granite upgrade can reverse this trend will be a crucial test for Avalanche.
