In a recent tweet, Vitalik Buterin stated that Ethereum will continue to enhance security and scalability through 'hard invariants.' He highlighted the changes made in 2021 with EIP-2929/3529 to increase SLOAD costs and weaken refunds, as well as the plans for 2024 with Dencun to weaken SELFDESTRUCT. For 2025, Ethereum plans to set the single transaction limit to 16,777,216 gas, restricting the scale of individual transactions or blocks to reduce DoS risks and simplify clients. He also suggested future limits for code byte access, ZK-EVM proof-of-stake cycles, and memory pricing.
