According to Decrypt, a 40-year-old man from Maryland, Minh Phuong Ngoc Vong, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release for assisting North Korean agents in secretly embedding themselves within US tech companies. Between 2021 and 2024, Vong used fake credentials to secure software development positions at at least 13 US companies, who paid him over $970,000 in salary while the actual work was carried out remotely by North Korean agents based in China.

Some of these companies also subcontracted Vong's services to US government agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), leading to these agents gaining unauthorized access to sensitive government systems.
