In a recent statement, Luke Judges, Global Head of Partnerships at Ripple, emphasized that XRP Ledger (XRPL) needs to learn from Solana in terms of execution speed, developer experience, and market strategy to maintain an edge in the new round of Layer1 competition. He highlighted Solana's appeal lies in 'practical engineering and rapid deployment,' rather than protocol design itself.

Judges, who previously operated validator nodes in the Solana ecosystem with a scale of over $30 million, believes that the success of L1 networks is often driven by 'practicality and speed,' rather than theoretical technological advancement. He stressed that while XRPL has made progress in advancing smart contracts and programmability, technical iterations must be accompanied by a clear go-to-market strategy to truly translate into a competitive advantage.

On the other hand, Ripple's Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz offered a different perspective. He stated that XRPL's core strengths lie in reliability, stability, and institutional-grade performance, superior to chains that prioritize high throughput but lack stability. He believes that XRPL's consistency and high availability are more suitable for real-world financial applications than 'blindly pursuing speed'.

Judges also emphasized the importance of developer tools, documentation, and onboarding processes, and pointed out that validator incentives and decentralized risks are key to the continuous development of L1. The current decrease in the number of Solana validators serves as a warning sign for XRPL.

Overall, Judges believes that XRPL's future strategy should focus on three points: improving developer experience, strengthening technical deployment speed, and borrowing efficiency in execution from competing chains while maintaining reliability. He emphasized that this is not a criticism of XRPL, but a necessary adjustment to prepare for future competitive cycles. (cointelegraph)
