According to beincrypto, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson stated that the threat of quantum computing to blockchain is exaggerated and not urgent. He noted that the industry already knows how to build quantum-resistant systems, but quantum secure protocols run 10 times slower, cost 10 times more, and no network is willing to sacrifice throughput. Hoskinson mentioned that before the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) establishes quantum cryptography standards (FIPS 203-206), the industry cannot adopt potentially deprecated algorithms. He cited the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Quantum Blockchain Initiative (QBI), which is evaluating whether scalable practical quantum computers can be achieved before 2033, with true quantum pressure expected to emerge in the 2030s.
