According to a report by Science and Technology Daily titled 'Digital RMB Applications Accelerate, Beware of These Scam Traps,' Liu Xiaochun, director of the Shanghai Financial Digitalization Research Center, revealed that some criminals are spreading information about purchasing digital RMB wallets through instant messaging tools, promising lucrative returns. They then use these acquired wallets to commit telecom fraud, money laundering, and other illegal activities. Some criminals also design fake event pages to steal personal information and funds. Dong Ximiao, deputy director of the Shanghai Financial and Development Laboratory, emphasized the importance of recognizing the ordinary nature of digital RMB as legal tender to prevent fraud, urging people to protect wallet passwords and verification codes just like they would protect physical cash.
