According to CNBC, SoftBank has fully completed its $4 billion investment commitment to OpenAI.
On April 1st, OpenAI completed a $4 billion financing round with SoftBank as the lead investor, bringing its post-investment valuation to $300 billion (including new capital). Other investors include core investor Microsoft, as well as Coatue, Altimeter, and Thrive. OpenAI has stated plans to use this new funding to further advance AI research and expand computing infrastructure, with around $18 billion earmarked for OpenAI's commitment to the Stargate program. This round of financing comes with a condition: if OpenAI does not complete the restructuring to a for-profit entity by December 31, 2025, the financing amount may be reduced by up to $10 billion.
