In a recent post on X platform, Vitalik Buterin stated that improving bandwidth is more secure and reliable than reducing latency. With the help of PeerDAS and ZKP, Ethereum's scalability can be increased by thousands of times, without conflicting with decentralization. Latency, on the other hand, is limited by physical laws and real-world conditions, such as the need to support global household nodes, resistance to censorship, and anonymity.

He pointed out that reducing latency to the range of 2-4 seconds is a reasonable goal, while applications requiring higher real-time performance (such as AI-driven) will depend on L2 and localized extensions like "city chains".
