In a recent interview with The New York Times, US President Trump claimed that as the Commander-in-Chief, his power is only limited by his own moral standards, disregarding international law and other mechanisms that restrict the use of military force, strikes against other countries, invasion, or pressure on a global scale. When asked if his global power is limited in any way, Trump replied, 'Yes, there is one thing for sure. That is my own moral compass and my personal will. These are the only factors that can stop me.' 'I don't need international law,' he added. 'I have no intention of harming anyone.' When further questioned if his government needs to abide by international law, Mr. Trump replied, 'Of course I will comply.' However, he made it clear that when these constraints apply to the US, he will act as the ultimate arbiter. He stated, 'It depends on what your definition of international law is.'
