According to reports, tonight at 21:30, the US will release December CPI data. The market generally expects that this inflation data will show that inflation pressure remains stubborn and still below the Fed's 2% target.

According to a comprehensive survey by Bloomberg and FactSet: overall CPI is expected to rise by 0.3% month-on-month and 2.7% year-on-year. Core CPI, excluding volatile food and energy, is expected to rise by 0.3% month-on-month and 2.7% year-on-year.

Although the Cleveland Fed's Nowcast model predicts slightly lower (core CPI up 0.22% month-on-month), mainstream Wall Street views believe that inflation has not significantly cooled. Data from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME Group) shows that the market is betting with a 95% probability that the Fed will maintain interest rates in January.
