In a recent survey, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, founder of the Chief Executive Leadership Institute at Yale University, pointed out that privately, American CEOs are 'very shocked' by the government's attacks on the Federal Reserve. Sonnenfeld and his colleagues found that out of the 200 CEOs they surveyed, 71% believe the Trump administration is eroding the Fed's independence, with 80% stating that Trump pressuring Powell to cut rates is not in the best interest of the United States. These opinions were expressed even before news of the Justice Department investigating Powell came to light.
