Visa's head of crypto, Cuy Sheffield, revealed in an interview with Reuters that Visa is working on integrating stablecoins into its existing payment systems to maintain market leadership. The stablecoin settlement volume has reached an annualized scale of $4.5 billion, a small portion of Visa's total payment volume of $14.2 trillion last year, but with significant monthly growth. Despite stablecoin circulation exceeding $270 billion, mainstream merchant acceptance remains limited with no large-scale merchant acceptance network currently in place. Visa has launched several stablecoin-related projects, including stablecoin payment cards, and initiated a pilot program in December allowing some U.S. banks to settle with Circle's USDC through Visa.
