A software program that mines cryptocurrency Monero to post people's bails has seen a 20% increase in hashrate since Black Lives Matter protests began in Minneapolis two weeks ago, as reported by Coindesk.

The program, Bail Bloc, has so far raised $8,000 and has distributed the money to various funds. Monero is a privacy coin which hides the identity of miners. Some bail funds have even begun to accept cryptocurrency.

“We are dedicated as a project and as individuals to the movement for black lives, and feel that the urgency of the situation requires direct action and people should direct resources to organizations on the ground that can respond rapidly," the developer of Bail Bloc, Grayson Earle, told Coindesk.
