CryptoGlobe reported that the number of Ethereum wallets holding 32 ETH, a minimum amount required for Ethereum 2.0 staking, has recently exceeded 120,000, a 13% increase in the last year.

Participating in the staking will allow users to contribute their stored crypto assets to enhance the network’s function in return for a small share of dividends. CryptoGlobe quoted data scientist Alex Svanevik’s conclusion that these 32-ETH holders are mostly individuals rather than exchanges.

The launch of Ethereum 2.0 will allow the currently Proof-of-Work (PoW) protocol to evolve into a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocol, which is more energy-efficient.
