Lawkmakers have proposed a law in India banning all private cryptocurrencies, as reported by Economic Times.

The proposal comes three months after the Supreme Court of India lifted a previous ban on crypto assets. If passed, the law will be troublesome for investors, exchanges, and any companies working with digital assets.

"A note has been moved (by the finance ministry) for inter-ministerial consultations," a government official told Economic Times.

The punishment for the use of cryptocurrencies could be a fine or a prison sentence between one and 10 years.
