An arsenal of fraud websites have launched a multi-phased Bitcoin scam to gather personal information from people living in the U.K., Australia, South Africa, the U.S., Singapore, and Spain, among others, according to a recent announcement from intelligence company Group-IB

While wide-reaching, the attack was concentrated in the U.K with 147,610 personal records collected by scammers. In the first stage of the scam victims recieved a text message with a link directing them to a fake webite, often posing as a media outlet, with a URL containing the victim's personal information.

The information in the URL was then pulled and transferred to a Bitcoin investment registration page. Group-IB noted that scams like these seem to be evolving.
