The U.S. Secret Service released a warning regarding an uptick in hacks targeting managed service providers.

The warning went out to private sector and government organizations on Friday, June 12, according to a copy of the warning first acquired by ZDNet.

Managed service providers remotely manage software for companies. The Secret Service's warning pointed out that since MSPs cater to a large body of customers, one hack could successfully access the files of numerous companies.

The hackers targeting MSPs have used the provider to attack point-of-sale systems, launch phishing scams using company emails, and release ransomware.

The Secret Service alert also provided best practices for MSPs to protect against hacks.
