A fraudulent Monero (XMR) mining botnet called “Prometei” was disclosed on Wednesday by the threat Intelligence team from Cisco Talos, as its official website shows.

The botnet deploys more than 15 executable models to backtrace passwords on infected computers and steal users’ data by invading their systems. Up to 10,000 systems contained in the botnet profited the net’s owner approximately a moderate value of $5000 since March.

The study also states that the single Prometei developer is possibly located in Eastern Europe.
