Days after President Trump announced that he was intent on banning the popular Chinese-owned social media app TikTok, he has changed his tune stating that he is open to U.S. based Microsoft purchasing the app.

Microsoft has been in talks to purchase TikTok from Chinese media company ByteDance for weeks, but negotiations paused on Friday after President Trump threatened to ban the app using executive orders. Some government officials have concerns that the app could be used to share U.S. citizens' data with China and pose a national security threat.

On Monday, August 3 while speaking at the White House President Trump stated that if Microsoft or another company does not buy TikTok by September 15, it will be shut down, as reported by The New York Times.
