Plaintiffs pursuing a class action suit against Status after an initial coin offering they believe to be in violation of federal law are asking the judge for their case permission to serve the defendants official documents via social media or email, as reported by Cointelegraph.

Typically defendants must be served court documents in person to ensure that they have been received and so that the defendants have adequate time to prepare a defense. Co-founders of Status Jarrad Hope and Carl Bennetts live in Zug, Switzerland making in person delivery difficult, particularly with COVID-19 travel restrictions and risks.

The motion presented to the judge would allow the plaintiffs to serve Hope and Bennetts paperwork via Twitter, LinkedIn, their official Status emails or any general inquiry contact information available for the company.
