Starbucks customers will now be able to track where their coffee beans came from using new blockchain technology from Microsoft Corp., as reported by Bloomberg.

Starting on Tuesday, August 25 customers will be able to use a code on coffee bags to find out where the beans came from, where they were roasted, and additional barista tips. A reverse code will be provided to farmers so they will be able to see where their beans end up.

Depending on the customer's purchase they will be able to see the country where their coffee was produced, the region it came from, the community that delivered them to certain washing stations and in some cases the farmer themselves. The codes can be entered to any desktop computer manually, so neither customers or farmers need even a smartphone to access the new feature.
