The test trialed the platform’s functionality and technical capabilities. The system was designed in collaboration with Waves Enterprise and according to a Rostelekom spokesperson who spoke with Cointelegraph worked as intended and did not fail under high load.

Votes were counted in under one minute using homomorphic encryption systems which allow calculations to result in the same output even if the underlying data remains encrypted.

Russia tried a blockchain voting system several months ago for constitutional amendments referendum. That election was met with reports of abnormal results in several regions and the system temporarily shut down early on in the voting day to high volume.
