Ethereum developers have presented a hard fork that would circumvent the impending Ice Age, which would cause a considerable slowdown on Ethereum mainnet.

Ethereum’s Ice Age, also known as the Difficulty Bomb, is the growing hashing difficulty in the mining algorithm that compensates miners with Ether (ETH). The proposed hard fork named Muir Glacier would push back the Ice Age mechanism to allow more time for developers to decide if Ice Age needs to be updated or removed entirely.
