CEO and founder of investment firm Pantera Capital Dan Morehead said that DeFi is on track to overtake Bitcoin in the next five years, according to a recent interview with Cointelegraph. 

Morehead highlighted that Pantera's altcoin funds have performed exceptionally well over the past few months due to the DeFi explosion, despite poor performance in 2019. By the end of August the company's digital asset fund was up 123% year to date. 

Morehead believes Bitcoin has already established itself as a digital gold so its upside potential is limited. On the other hand, he thinks DeFi is undervalued meaning it has potential for high returns.
