Agustin Carstens, head of the Bank of International Settlements, believes that central banks need to embrace digital currency to maintain their position at the heart of the global payments system.

Cartsens stated that central banks “have a responsibility to be at the cutting edge of the debate,” otherwise central banks will be overtaken.

Carstens doesn’t like Bitcoin and is concerned about big tech companies such as Facebook offering payment services because they could become unfairly dominant due to their existing data resources.
