Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square has announced that Twitter will be funding a small team to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media.

In Dorsey’s tweet he announced that the independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers will be developing what the company hopes could become the new decentralized internet standard. Twitter’s Goal behind the funding is to eventually become a client of this new standard.
