According to an official press release, Ethereum Classic Labs (ETC Labs) and its ETC Core Developer Team proposed Modified Exponential Subjective Scoring (MESS), an effective solution to prevent 51% attacks. The team said after it is applied at the network scale, MESS can offer a satisfactorily high rate of finality with little additional risk or cost.

Begining from 2020, the Ethereum blockchain has suffered about three 51% attacks. This proposal, which has tested successfully, is scheduled to be available within the next 10 days.
