Blockchain startup Enigma has filed to register its ENG token with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a document published to the SEC's portal on Friday, September 18.

The document emphasizes that the tokens should not be regarded as traditional securities and are currently used as a payment method on the project's network. Authors noted that token holders do not have voting, liquidation, or preemption rights.

Once the registration statement goes into effect, Enigma will be required to file annual 10-K, quarterly 10-Q and current 8-K reports.

Enigma is focused on bringing privacy to blockchains while remaining scalable. The company hopes to introduce secret contracts  meaning smart contracts operating off-chain  to the Ethereum network.
