Network data specialist at CoinMetrics Lucas Nuzzi pointed out in a recent tweet that over 4 million units of Bitcoin are out of circulation as percent supply of tokens last moved over 5 years ago hit a new all-time-high.

Nuzzi attached a graph from CoinMetrics demonstrating that as Bitcoin's supply increases, so does the amount of BTC out of circulation. Out of circulation encompasses tokens that have been lost, burned or that have not moved in over 5 years.

Earlier on Wednesday, the percent supply last active over 5 years ago hit a new all-time-high of 22.226%, according to Glassnode data. The supply out of circulation combined with Bitcoin's 21 million hard cap suggests the asset may be more scarce than typically assumed.
