Hearth Tarbert, Chairman of Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) believes Ethereum futures are likely, per cryptoiq. 

Although just speculation for now, there is no specification on when or where Ethereum futures would launch. When Bitcoin futures launched in 2017, it precipitated a price collapse and introduced short selling pressure. Crypto space may label futures as good news because it would increase institutional interest. Bitcoin's history makes one question the resulting effects of the futures.
