Financial institutions are poised to increase blockchain spending in 2021, a recent survey from Deloitte suggests.

The survey titled "Financial Services Industry Outlooks 2020" demonstrated that 27% of institutions surveyed expect a slight increase in blockchain spending, while 14% expect a large increase. 33% expect no change, with the remaining 27% looking to cut their expenditure slightly, according to preliminary results shared with Cointelegraph.

Within the group of companies expecting large spending increases, blockchain was the second-highest category behind cloud computing. However, institutions planning to downgrade spending placed blockchain at the second place to cut behind robotic process automation.

Richard Walker, head of Deloitte’s financial services blockchain team, told Cointelegraph that 2021 will be a "break-out year for blockchain and digital ledger technologies."
