The New York Times reported that after President Biden called Russian President Putin and asked him to take action to close ransomware organizations targeting the United States on Friday, REvil, the largest ransomware group, has quietly disappeared in the dark web.

REvil launched a wave of attacks against American companies. Last week, it hacked the computers of more than 200 companies associated with IT company Kaseya and demanded a ransom of $70 million in Bitcoin

Earlier in May, the organization also attacked the American meat processor JBS and received a Bitcoin ransom of $11 million.

As of press time, it is unclear why REvil went offline and the main messenger behind it.
