During CNBC’s "Squawk Box" on Wednesday, Steven Mnuchin, Former U.S. Treasury Secretary and investment banker, stated that Bitcoin can be part of an investment portfolio.

He said: "If people want to buy Bitcoin as a substitute, no different than buying gold or some other asset, it's fine. I don't personally want to have it in my portfolio but if people want to that's perfectly fine."

He pointed out that the largest cryptocurrency should be in a "regulated world", saying: "Some people think it will go up. Some people think it will go down, but it should be in a regulated world."
