Mario Marcel, Governor of the Central Bank of Chile, said in a statement that the bank will form a research team to analyze the goals, requirements and regulations of the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
The central bank stated that any possible currency will be issued in a manner similar to paper money and coins, which can be used for commercial transactions or transactions between individuals, or for financial institutions to settle point-to-point payments.
The goal of the research team is to publish a white paper in the first quarter of 2022, proposing an action framework and strategic goals, action guidelines, and expected results. The team also plans to develop a medium-term strategy for digital payments in Chile, which will analyze topics such as private digital payment methods for crypto assets.
