Decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocol bZx announced that early Friday, the private key that controls the deployment of Polygon and BSC was leaked, resulting in a loss of funds. The deployment of Ethereum is controlled by the DAO and is not affected.

Blockchain security company SlowMist discovered that more than $53 million was stolen. As of press time, these funds are located in seven separate addresses controlled by hackers. Data compiled by SlowMist shows that the address with the most funds holds approximately $18.4 million.

bZx emphasized that the bZx smart contract itself was not compromised, and this incident only affected the deployment of Polygon and BSC through the leaked key. The deployment, governance and DAO vault of Ethereum were not affected by this incident.

The most recent bZx attack occurred in September 2020, with losses $exceeding 8 million, but the team claimed that all stolen funds were recovered.
