Warner Music Group (WMG) announced Wednesday that it has entered into a partnership with blockchain game developer Splinterlands, a first-of-its-kind deal that will see the two companies create and develop a unique, arcade-style, play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain game for WMG artists.

The two companies will focus on developing a mobile-friendly, easily accessible game compared to traditional P2E games, ultimately fostering wider crypto adoption and expanding community reach.

Oana Ruxandra, Chief Digital Officer and EVP of Business Development at WMG, said: "I don’t think we can underestimate how massive the opportunity around P2E gaming is. Our partnership with Splinterlands pulls focus to our artists and their music as we all work together to develop and maintain tokenized games. As we build, we will be unlocking new revenue streams for our artists while further solidifying fans’ participation in value created.”

Founded in 2018, Splinterlands, the collectible card game of the same name, currently has 1.8 million registered users and 450,000 daily active users.
