The National Basketball Association (NBA) is set to introduce 18,000 dynamic Ethereum-based NFTs today for all 16 teams in the 2022 NBA playoffs, according to an announcement. There will be 75 NFTs for each of the 240 players in the playoffs.

The Association NFTs are being issued in a blind-mint, meaning that nobody will know which player they will receive prior to April 22. Players will be randomly assigned to owners using Chainlink VRF so everyone will have a fair and equal chance of mining any player from the 16 teams. The minting will begin on April 20 at 12:00 p.m. ET.

These are dynamic NFTs, meaning that they will change depending on how that individual player and their team is doing using pre-set achievements that are written into the Galaxis smart contract. The NFTs are connected to live data feeds and computations for each team and player via Chainlink Oracle.

Therefore, the more a player and/or team accomplishes during the 2022 NBA playoffs, the more visual changes like backgrounds, player accessories and emojis, the NFT will receive. For example if your player isn’t playing much, but the team advances to multiple rounds in the playoffs, the NFT will still change.

Here is a list in which the traits and accessories change based on how well your individual player performs.

The 2022 NBA playoffs have already begun, with eight series underway (one of the 16 teams playing another one of the 16 teams). That begs the question, will events and achievements already accomplished by teams and players be revealed when the NFTs are revealed. Luckily for owners, those accomplishments will already be revealed, immediately making those NFTs much more valuable than other ones.

The NBA is following suit over other teams like the Golden State Warriors minting their 2022 playoff NFTs just over a week ago. Furthermore, individual players are already creating their own NFTs like James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns.

Clearly, NFTs are just getting started for different sports leagues and players, almost creating a new digital version of the physical sports cards that were and still are so popular.
