Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) confirmed on Twitter that that their Instagram was hacked on Monday, urging users not to mint anything, click links, or link your wallet to anything.
At the time of writing, the scammer’s address has ammassed more than 130 NFTs, including four Bored Ape Yacht Clubs, seven Mutant Ape Yacht Clubs, three Bored Ape Kennel Clubs among countless other NFTs worth roughly $3 million. Twitter account “zachxbt” initially broke the news and provided a detailed graph of the transactions that transpired.
The hacker created a link that led to a page claiming to be sponsored by Yuga Labs, asking users to connect their MetaMask wallet in order to be airdropped LAND, an upcoming utility token.
The wallets of those unlucky users that clicked on the link have been compromised with Bored Apes and Mutant Apes and more being sent to new wallets. This isn’t the first time that an attack like this has happened. Earlier this month an NFT user traded away a rare Bored Ape and some Mutant Apes for worthless pictures instead of actual NFTs.
Now users and NFT enthusiasts are calling for more safety measures and education to mitigate and possibly eliminate these sorts of attacks in the future.
