Global soccer legend and icon, David Beckham is officially taking his brand to the metaverse as he filed three trademark applications for NFTs, digital tokens, digital clothing like footwear and headgear and virtual performances according to a tweet from Mike Kondoudis, a USPTO licensed trademark attorney.
The trademark application was filed on April 19, with the corresponding tweet coming days later on April 24. The trademark was officially filed by DB Ventures Limited, venture capital firm owned by Beckham
This announcement comes roughly one month after Beckham inked a partnership with DigitalBits to be global ambassador for the open-source blockchain company. According to the announcement, DigitalBits aims to utilize Beckham’s extensive experience and relationships working with massive global brands to promote and expand DigitalBits’ brand and image.
The former Los Angeles Galaxy soccer player, among many other European teams, has a huge digital presence with more than 138 million followers with 72.5 million of those coming from Instagram. There is no doubt that Beckham is one of the most influential people in the world.
While it is still unknown what the legendary soccer player plans to do in the metaverse, one thing is clear, he will have a wide-ranged group of followers accompanying him on his journey.
