The U.S. Departments of State, the Treasury, and Homeland Security, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued, on April 15, an alert against North Korea on cyber threat. The alert states that cyber activities, such as cyber-enabled financial theft, money laundering, cryptojacking, of the DPRK have threatened not only the United States but also the international financial system at large. The alert believes that these cyber activities help the DPRK increase revenue for destructive weapons and missile programs.

The alert of the U.S. government further announces measures to mitigate the cyber threat posed by the DPRK, including information sharing, law enforcement, and implementing the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards. The U.S. has specified malicious cyber activities of North Korea as HIDDEN COBRA.
