Turkey seized $40 million in cryptocurrency in an operation against an illegal gambling ring, according to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor.
Turkey authorities arrested 40 suspects suspected of crypto laundering and channeling gains into an Ankara-based criminal organization.
A total of 2.5 billion Turkish lira ($135 million USD) was transacted, with $40 million having been confiscated.
“This operation came out of Turkish Cyprus and is linked to the murder of Halil Falyali,” said Turkey’s Interior Minister, Süleyman Soylu.
Halil Falyali was a casino owner who was murdered in February in Northern Cyprus.
Soylu said this is just the beinning, referencing the crackdown.
