Ethereum’s ten-millionth block was mined on Monday, May 4, according to data from Etherscan. The number of blocks mined on Ethereum, the second-largest blockchain by market cap, is over 15 times bigger than that on Bitcoin. Mining speed on Ethereum is 20 seconds a block on average, while for Bitcoin, it takes as long as 10 minutes to mine a block, per CoinGape.

ETH 2.0 test phase is postponed to begin in July when the system will convert to the proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism from the proof-of-work (PoW) mechanism. PoS system cuts off the energy-intensive mining process and is more energy-efficient than the PoW.
