Cryptocurrency analytics platform Crystal Blockchain released a report on May 19, analyzing Q1 2020 bitcoin transactions by darknet entities reduced in quantity but increased in value by 65%, compared with Q1 2019.

Crystal Blockchain attributed the surge of Bitcoin value to the growing amount of money transferred on the dark web and extensive adoption of bitcoin as a currency for use. The rise in the dollar value of BTC may have also contributed to the surge.

The report also inferred fewer criminal activities utilizing cryptocurrency exchanges from dropping numbers of bitcoin transactions that require verification.
