The amount of Bitcoin extortion cases reported to BitcoinAbuse.com saw a 1,300% increase in April compared to March, with sextortion leading the charge.

There were reportedly 48,370 reports filed in April as compared to just 3,684 in March. Much of this surplus was caused by the explosion in sextorsion cases.

Sextorsion is the act of scammers telling victims through email that their computers were hacked and that they allegedly obtained information on their history of visits to pornographic pages.
