Caroline Ellison Requests Sealing of Supporter Information Ahead of September Sentencing

Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison is seeking to have the names and personal information of individuals writing letters of support for her redacted during her sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for September 24, 2024. In a court filing on September 9, Ellison's attorney, Anjan Sahni, requested the redaction to protect her supporters from potential harassment or doxing, citing the intense media scrutiny Ellison has faced since the collapse of FTX.

Ellison has been largely absent from the public eye since pleading guilty to fraud charges in 2022, and her upcoming sentencing could make her the third FTX-related defendant to face prison time. As part of the sentencing process, Ellison's legal team also plans to include sensitive medical information and other personal details, which they seek to have redacted.

Ellison, along with several other key figures in the FTX scandal, faces significant legal repercussions for her role in the misuse of funds between FTX and Alameda Research. Although she could face a maximum sentence of 110 years in prison, her cooperation with authorities may result in a more lenient sentence.
